"When no one resides there...": PM Modi Responds to Digvijaya Singh's Katchatheevu Remark

NEW UPDATE TODAY

During a rally in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Katchatheevu issue and responded to senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh's question about whether anyone lives on Katchatheevu. Without directly mentioning Singh, Modi stated, "Just because no one lives there, does that mean it can be given away? Yesterday, a Congress leader asked if anyone lives there. Then what about this desert? Should we assume nobody lives here? Is this how one serves the nation? This reflects their mindset. To them, any uninhabited area in the country is merely land to be disposed of. They could hand over a place in Rajasthan just like that." The Katchatheevu matter has gained significance as the BJP, just before the elections, asserted, based on RTI documents, that the island was relinquished to Sri Lanka by the Congress government.
